Giant Hogweed Friday, 23 July 2010 20:48 Giant Hogweed has been spotted on North Muldew Lake Road just past Penninsula Road. According to reports  Giant Hogweed poses a serious health threat - if you come across it or think you have it on your property, DO NOT touch it. Hogweed stalks, leaves, and bristles contain a noxious sap that sensitizes skin to sunlight. Contact between the skin and sap can occur by brushing up against or breaking the plant’s bristles, stalks or leaves. Once the sap comes into contact with skin, exposure to sunlight can cause severe burns and painful blistering, usually within 48 hours. Blisters can develop into purple and black scars, leading to years of recurring infl ammation and dermatitis (skin irritation), as well as permanent scarring. Contact between the sap and eyes can lead to temporary or permanent blindness.

The Lake

Muldrew Lake, located south west of Gravenhurst, is well known for its rugged beauty, calm waters and its active community of residents who are devoted to the lake lifestyle. Our lake is one of the most popular of the smaller Muskoka area lakes and our image gallery will show you why. Muldrew's waters lie on the bedrock of the Canadian Shield, its depths and shape scraped out by glaciers thousands of years ago. Five species of pine and deciduous species such as birch, oak and maple decorate the shores. Muldrew is home to many species of wildlife, the most popular of which are the Common Loon, Great Blue Heron and, of course, the chipmunk. Much to the delight of residents, a large variety of songbirds, raptors and hummingbirds commonly visit, nest and feed in the shorelands surrounding Muldrew Lake.

The Muldrew Lakes Cottagers' Association

The Association got its charter as the The Cottagers' Club in 1920 and is involved in a large variety of issues and activities reflective of the interests of its members and Muldrew Lake residents at large.
